Here are five tips to remember if you want to prepare your home for the market so that it sells quickly and for top dollar:

1. First impressions matter. When someone pulls up to your home, do they see a neat and tidy yard with fresh landscaping and seasonal flowers? How about a decorative wreath on the front door? Make sure buyers feel welcome the moment they pull up to your driveway, and don’t forget to sweep away all the dead leaves and spiderwebs from your porch.

2. Work on overdue repairs. We all have those honey-do lists that we just need to take care of. Buyers want to walk into your home and see something that’s well-maintained and cared for. If they see that, they’ll feel confident making an offer.

3. Choose neutral paint colors. You might like that bright red wall, but all a buyer sees is something they’ll have to paint over when they move in, so go ahead and neutralize those types of areas with colors that are fresh, bright, and cheery.

4. Make sure your home passes the sniff test. In addition to looking clean, it should smell great.

5. Declutter and depersonalize. This is an especially important step in the home preparation process. Take down any family photos and other things of that nature and box them up. You want people looking at your home, not your things.
